Rod Perry is global head of technology investing for 3i plc – one of the largest venture capital companies in the world operating in 15 countries from 32 offices. He is a member of the Board of 3i Group plc and a member of both the Executive Committee and Investment Committee. Between 1997 and 2001, Mr Perry was responsible for the 3i investment business in Asia Pacific. Mr Perry joined 3i in 1985 and spent four years with the global technology sector teams reviewing investment opportunities and five years as CIO. In the five years prior to joining 3i, Mr Perry was a member of the Boards of three technology start-ups and a co-founder of one of these start-ups and of a technology consultancy based in the UK. In 1977, Mr Perry founded a displays and video games business in the UK and sold this company to a major Japanese video games manufacturer in 1980. Prior to this, he was a manager and project manager in advanced computing and communications. Mr Perry has a BSc in Physics and is a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.

Stephan earned his undergraduate degree in economics and management at Colorado State University and master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University, where he was a McCloy fellow.

Christian Reitberger holds a PhD in Physics obtained sub auspiciis prasidentis from the University of Vienna. After having worked in various research functions he joined McKinsey & Company where he specialized in serving fast growing high technology clients in the fields of telecommunications, IT and digital media in their start-up phases. He was instrumental in building McKinsey’s consulting offering targeted towards high growth companies and their investors.

He left after four and a half years as a senior engagement manager, to join Apax Partners in October 1999. Christian is responsible for telecommunications, information technology and internet infrastructure investments with a focus on semiconductor and photonics investments. He led the 12snap, Ciao, Healy Hudson, Systemonic and Webraska transactions and was involved in the Centerbeam and IPG Photonics transactions.

Falk F. Strascheg (63) is an electronic engineer and experienced entrepreneur. He is Managing Director of Extorel, one of the leading German Venture Capital Fund of Fund corporations which he founded in 1998. In 1987, he established Technologieholding, grew it to the leading German Venture Capital company and sold it in 2000 to 3i.

Earlier, in 1971, he launched Laser-Optronic in Munich. In less than ten years, the enterprise became one of the leading European producers of laser systems, with branches in Brussels, Milan and Paris. In 1981, Falk Strascheg sold his enterprise to Coherent Inc. of Palo Alto, California, the world leader in laser manufacturing.

Falk Strascheg was elected president of the European Venture Capital Association (EVCA) for the fiscal year 1997/98. He is also currently on supervisory, advisory and governing boards at various German and foreign high-tech enterprises.

In May 2002, he created with significant financial efforts at the Munich University of Applied Sciences the “Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship”.

He previously served on the boards of several publicly traded companies in the technology sector such as AudioCodes (NASDAQ: AUDC), Backweb (NASDAQ: BWEB), Magic Software Enterprises (NASDAQ: MGIC) and Aladdin (NASDAQ: ALDN).

Chemi is one of the founders of theIVA (Israel Venture Association) and is currently serving as Chairman of the Board. Additionally, he serves on the board of the Israeli Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) Seed Fund and Koor Industries, one of Israel's leading conglomerates (NASDAQ: KOR).

Simon Waddington joined PolyTechnos from Monsanto Company where he was responsible for starting and managing the European corporate venturing activities. From 1991 to 1994, he was Product Development Manager with Zeneca where he ran their biodegradable polymer film and coating activities. Prior to this, he was a Senior Research Scientist within ICI´s Advanced Materials and Paints divisions respectively, specializing in surface, interface and adhesion science. His functional roles have included corporate venturing, business development and strategy, product development, applied science, and basic research.

Simon’s activities have broadly spanned the physical, chemical and biological sectors and he has therefore developed a keen interest in businesses that have a deep interdisciplinary context. His involvement with the development and advancement of surface analysis methods has led to a long standing interest with nanoscience. He is a co-founder of the European NanoBusiness Association and serves on its Advisory Board.

Simon holds a Ph.D. in surface and solid-state physics from the University of Liverpool and an MBA from Harvard Business School (HBS). He serves on the board of the HBS Alumni Association of Germany. Simon has published and received a number of patents. He has lived and worked in the U.K., the U.S., Belgium, and Germany.

Simon’s broad technological background has enabled him to take a leadership role in multiple investment areas, from polymer electronics through to medical devices. Simon is currently a board member of Plastic Logic Ltd., Power Paper Ltd., and Micrus Corporation. He was promoted to the position of Managing Partner as of January 2003.

In his last function, as head of the 'Strategic Projects in the Automobile Sector', he was responsible for managing the commercial side of major international projects. Dietrich Ulmer gained his doctorate in sociology from the University of Konstanz. Before coming to SWX, he bore responsibility at Berner Kantonalbank and Zürcher Kantonalbank for equities and financial analysis, as well as institutional client marketing. From 1984 to 1986 Kurt was founder and managing director (Geschäftsführer) of Lotus Development GmbH in Munich.

From 1981 to 1984 he was a strategy consultant with Bain & Company in Boston and Munich. Friedrich Bornikoel has more than 15 year experience in venture capital and has been a Managing Partner of TVM since 1997. His investment activities focus mainly on companies in the following markets: software, industrial applications, design and planning tools, telecommunications, and semiconductors. Currently Mr. Bornikoel represents TVM on the Board of Directors of alfabet meta-modeling AG (Berlin), Impress Software AG (Hanover), as well as VPIsystems (Holmdel, NJ). For many years he was a member of the board of SCM Microsystems, a early TVM lead investment, and various other portfolio companies.

In May 2003 Mr. Bornikoel was elected to the Board of the German venture capital organization BVK.

Prior to joining TVM in 1987, he managed a large program administered by the Federal Minister of Science and Technology (BMFT) of public R&D grants in the area of advanced microelectronic components and sensors based on fiberoptics, integrated optics, and semiconductor technologies, as well as related design methods. Before that, he was a project leader at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Technology in Munich. Friedrich Bornikoel earned his master in physics (Diplom Physiker) at the Technical University of Munich.

Ms. Fredericks advises domestic and international companies on public and private debt and equity offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and financial restructuring. Ms. Fredericks focuses primarily on emerging growth companies.

Ms. Fredericks has over 20 years of investment banking experience. Previously, she was a Managing Director of Corporate Finance with Ambient Capital and KPMG Peat Marwick. Prior to that she was in the Mergers and Acquisitions departments of Kidder, Peabody & Co. and Drexel Burnham Lambert.

Ms. Fredericks received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Smith College, and a Masters of International Affairs in International Business from Columbia University. She recently taught a course at New York University entitled “Privatization and Economic Reform: Focus on Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union”. She speaks frequently at international conferences on a variety of Corporate Finance topics. Ms. Fredericks is on the Board of Directors of VI Group plc, a software company based in the UK and publicly-traded on the London Stock Exchange Alternative Investment Market and the American Stock Exchange..
