- We provide a Rent An Address facility and advice to businesses
which have started but are not yet at the stage where they can
afford the accommodation in the Centre. Currently 80 businesses
use this facility.
- As a property initiative we house around 50 high tech companies.
We work very closely with the University of Cambridge, the local
SBS franchise holder and other relevant organisations in the Cambridge

T-Venture

T-Venture was formed in October 1997 as a wholly-owned subsidiary
of Deutsche Telekom AG. The corporate venture capital company invests
in innovative services and high-tech companies with prospects for
excellent growth in the so-called TIMES markets (Telecommunications,
Information Technology, Multimedia, Entertainment & Security).
Of the EUR 400 million of capital
currently available, 80 per cent is earmarked for direct investment,
and 20 per cent indirectly via VC funds. Each direct investment
is in the region of EUR 0.5 to 5 million (although larger amounts
are possible), and as a matter of policy all investments
are minority interests.
The preferred financing stages
are seed money, start-up financing and expansion financing. Direct
investments in suitable companies are undertaken by subsidiaries
of the holding company , and managed by professional
in-house investment managers of which there are currently twenty-two.
In parallel, T-Venture also has equity interests in domestic and
international VC funds with external venture managers who undertake
investments in growth companies and offer T-Venture opportunities
for co-investment. In terms of geographical spread, most of the
investments are in Europe and the USA. where T-Venture is represented
by its own subsidiary (T-Venture of America, Inc) T-Venture has
offices in Berlin, Darmstadt, Munich, Boston (MA, USA), Redwood
City (CA, USA), Tokyo and Singapore.
The present T-Venture portfolio
(with an investment cost of approx (EUR 160 m) currently includes
48 businesses (as at December 31, 2000) plus 10 fund holdings. Eight
IPO flotations and a successful trade sale enabled the
portfolios value to be tripled within a short period of time.
